Copyright and license information for fsbrain and its optional data files
=========================================================================

This file documents the ownership of copyright and intellectual property of
all components of the fsbrain package, including the optional data files that
can be downloaded at runtime via the download_*() functions. It is provided in
compliance with the CRAN Repository Policy
(https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/policies.html).

1. Package code
---------------

The fsbrain package code is (c) Tim Schafer, and is licensed under the MIT
license. See the files 'LICENSE' and 'LICENSE_FULL' for details.

2. Demo data downloaded by download_optional_data()
---------------------------------------------------

The demo subject data ('subject1' and 'subject2') was created by Tim Schafer,
the author of fsbrain, using FreeSurfer. It is the author's own data and
carries no third-party copyright. It is provided for testing, examples, and
the vignette.

3. FreeSurfer template data downloaded by download_fsaverage(),
   download_fsaverage_minimal(), download_fsaverage3(), and
   download_fsaverage6()
---------------------------------------------------------------

These functions download data of the FreeSurfer 'fsaverage', 'fsaverage3' and
'fsaverage6' template subjects (cortical surfaces, cortex labels, curvature,
sphere and registration files, and related files). This data originates from
FreeSurfer, developed by the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging,
Massachusetts General Hospital / Harvard Medical School, and is subject to the
FreeSurfer Software License
(https://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/fswiki/FreeSurferSoftwareLicense). The
download functions require the user to explicitly accept the FreeSurfer
license before downloading. Please cite:

4. Atlas data downloaded by download_fsaverage_atlases() and
   download_fs_LR_32_atlases()
---------------------------------------------------------------

These functions download cortical atlas (parcellation) files in the space of
the 'fsaverage' and 'fs_LR 32k' templates, respectively. The atlases are the
work of their respective authors and are redistributed (and, for the fsaverage
versions, resampled from the fs_LR 32k versions) by the brain_atlases project
(https://github.com/dfsp-spirit/brain_atlases). The converted files are
considered derivative works and are licensed under the license of the original
atlas. See the per-atlas attribution files in
inst/extdata/attribution/fsaverage/label/ and
inst/extdata/attribution/fs_LR_32/label/ for full details. In particular:

5. fs_LR 32k template meshes downloaded by download_fs_LR_32_meshes()
---------------------------------------------------------------------

These functions download the standard fs_LR 32k cortical surface meshes
(white, pial, inflated, very inflated, midthickness, sphere, and flat). The
meshes were created by the Van Essen Lab et al. as part of Caret / Connectome
Workbench / HCP Pipelines, and are widely used subject to the HCP Open Access
Data Use Terms (https://www.humanconnectome.org/license). No license file was
found in the source repository (https://github.com/DiedrichsenLab/fs_LR_32).
See inst/extdata/attribution/fs_LR_32/surf/fs_LR_32k.attribution.json.

6. Trademarks
-------------

'FreeSurfer', 'fsaverage', 'fs_LR', 'conte69', 'HCP' and 'Caret' are names,
marks, or project names of their respective owners. Their use here is factual
and does not imply endorsement by, or affiliation with, the respective owners.

7. Availability
---------------

None of the optional data files described above are part of the fsbrain
package itself. They are downloaded on demand from a public web server
(https://rcmd.org/projects/nitestdata/) into a local package file cache managed
by the 'pkgfilecache' package. Users must comply with the respective licenses
of the data they download.
